We have had a couple issues with load securement. We need to be safe and compliant. Sometimes safe is not DOT compliant so more straps have to be added to be compliant. On the other hand, sometimes it may be DOT compliant but not safe and needs additional tie downs beyond what the DOT required. We can never be un-safe or non-compliant. Another concern is the spacing and number of tie downs. Some guys want to be put straps at 10’. This is technically compliant, but it may cause you to get pulled over or pulled in—and then you are wasting your time and risking more fines and write-ups. Let’s keep spacing of straps at 2 in first 6’ and one at least every 8’
